Following the dramatic conclusion to the first season of F1 Academy, we look forward to what the 2024 season will bring. Building upon the debut season, the all-female series has become an official Formula One support race in 2024 with the calendar already announced.

Meanwhile, 2023 F1 Academy champion Marta Garcia will progress up the motorsport ladder as she moves to the Formula Regional European Championship. The move cements that the new category can help women progress further in motorsport, which is its primary purpose.

Looking forward to the 2024 driver line-up, McLaren was the first Formula One team to announce their driver representative in the form of Bianca Bustamante. She has moved from Prema Racing to join ART Grand Prix next season.

The Filipina driver will be joined by Lia Block. Williams has announced that the American driver will represent the British team in F1 Academy next season at ART Grand Prix. Following the announcement Block said:

“I am so excited to be joining the Williams Driver Academy and competing in F1 Academy in 2024! This is something I never could have dreamed of. I can’t wait to embrace this new experience and learn as much as possible.”

Additionally, the Team Principal of ART Grand Prix, Sébastien Philippe, added:

“Extreme sports are part of Lia’s DNA and her debut in high-profile international competitions attests to her talent and her adaptability to a wide range of demanding environments. At 17 years old, Lia is driven with a great determination and an appetite for major challenges, that should allow her to quickly find her place on our team and in the F1 Academy.”

Block joins the Williams Racing Driver Academy

In addition to representing Williams in F1 Academy, Block has also joined the Williams Racing Driver Academy. The move will provide the American racer with additional support from the Grove-based team. Block joins a talented group of drivers at the Academy, including Jamie Chadwick.

Williams Team Principal James Vowles has also had his say on the recruitment of Block, stating:

“We are excited to welcome Lia to Williams Racing as our F1 Academy driver for 2024. Lia has already achieved a tremendous amount in motorsport, has incredible natural talent, and the champion mindset and dedication to make a success of her journey into open-wheel racing.”

He continued, “We cannot wait to get started on this journey together. As a team, we are committed to Formula 1 and F1 Academy’s joint efforts to improve female representation in motorsport, and we look forward to working with Lia as a key part of the Williams Racing Driver Academy.”
