Villeneuve: Jeddah GP a “Hollywood Show”

Jacques Villeneuve has expressed his belief that this weekend’s Saudi Arabian Grand Prix was more of a “Hollywood Show” than an F1 race.

Villeneuve, speaking to Autosport, said that the battle between Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton “wasn’t F1, it was rental karting”

Villeneuve, who won the 1997 World Championship with Williams, suggested that the late Frank Williams “would have turned in his grave, seeing this race.”

He added: “Do we want sport and good F1? Or do we just want a Hollywood show? If you want a Hollywood show, today was amazing. But is it what F1 is all about?

“It was great for the fans, so that will probably increase the viewership, which is great for F1. But we’re starting to get away from the sport, that’s all. So ultimately, it depends if you’re a purist or not.”

Villeneuve, now a TV pundit who has never been afraid to speak his mind, also described the actions of the team principles as “ridiculous”.

He then went on to blame the DRS for the collision between Hamilton and Verstappen.

Villeneuve finished by saying that he hopes the final race in Abu Dhabi is “not Hollywood. We already got our Hollywood this year.”
