The Silver Arrows are in need of a new driver ready for the 2025 season following the announcement that Lewis Hamilton will be joining Ferrari at the end of 2024.

One of the drivers linked to the vacant seat is Ricciardo, who impressed at the end of the 2023 season with AlphaTauri.

The Australian driver finished seventh in the Mexican Grand Prix last season, the best result of any AlphaTauri driver in 2023.

Mercedes is not the only team rumoured to be looking at Ricciardo, with rumours linking him to a return to Red Bull to replace Sergio Perez in 2025.

For now though, Ricciardo remains with Visa Cash App RB for 2024 and is focussing on the season ahead with them.

“I’m definitely not looking that far ahead,” said the Australian, speaking to RACER at the RB car launch.

“At this part of my career, looking ahead feels a bit like a year closer to the end. So it’s more reason for me to be there now and really take it race by race.

“I guess in their [Mercedes’] position they are in no rush. So they will judge everyone, how they are doing, the driver market, whatever. So I think this is a good position for them.

“Part of me is also happy not to be involved in all this crazy stuff, especially this early in the season. So if the silly season happens without me, that’s fine with me at this point!”

High targets for 2024

With the rebrand amongst other big changes at Visa Cash App RB, targets are high within the team following a disappointing 2023 season.

Targets of finishing higher up the grid have come along, with the team believing top five finishes are now possible with the upgrades to the car.

“You have to aim high, but being in this sport so long, you want to remain realistic as you don’t want to end up ultimately disappointed,” continued Ricciardo.

“Top-fives should be a target and if we get into that position, maybe some podiums present themselves. Of course we want to win but, you know, I think we made steps last year, let’s make a few more steps.

“Do I think top-five results are on the table – and could they be on the table in the first half of the season? I’d like to think so.”
