Aston Martin announced Jak Crawford as its newest member of the Aston Martin Driver Development Programme.

18-year-old Jak Crawford made his F2 debut with Hitech last season, finishing 13th overall with 57 points including a Sprint Race victory and four further podium finishes.

Crawford originally was backed by Red Bull between 2020-2023. During those years, the American wasn’t shy of success. He was the runner-up in ADAC F4 and an eight-time winner in Euroformula.

However, it was announced at the end of 2023 that Crawford would no longer be in the academy.

Aston Martin took this opportunity to swipe the youngster up and announcing him as their newest addition, just hours after the unravelling of the AMR24.

Crawford’s role and the programmes aims

Being a part of the Aston Martin Driver Development Programme provides youngsters with some crucial on-hand experiences that will prepare them for the demands they will be faced with in F1.

The juniors get to test old machinery and use the sim at Silverstone to provide feedback to the team. Alongside the physical aspect, the team will also provide media training for its drivers.

As part of Crawford’s new role, he will assist the support race-operators during race weekends and attending races.

Later on in the year Crawford will get to have his first proper feel of a F1 car as he gets to test the AMR22.

Alongside his work at Aston Martin, Crawford will be heading into his second season in F2 with DAMS. He will be looking to build more momentum to his name and chase more victories and podiums.

What Crawford had to say on his exciting new opportunity

Crawford expressed his excitement about the next chapter of his career:

“I am proud to take this next step in my career. The Aston Martin Aramco Formula One Team is a great place to learn and grow, and the programme ahead sounds exciting.

“I cannot wait to start working with everyone – especially on the simulator where I can make a contribution to the team’s performance on race weekends.

“I’m thrilled to get the chance to drive the AMR22 car later this year. It is a big motivator for me to work hard and make the most of this great opportunity.”

Aston Martin, team principal, Mike Krack welcomed Crawford, expressing the high-level of potential the American has is exciting:
