The Milton Keynes-based outfit dominated the 2023 campaign, winning all but one race out of a possible 22 thanks in large part to the supremacy of driver Max Verstappen.

But with limited wind tunnel testing time and other restrictions imposed for finishing the 2023 Constructors’ Championship top of the pile, many expect other teams to close the gap to Red Bull on track.

This includes Red Bull boss Horner, who believes rival team McLaren F1 will be their potential closest competitor for the upcoming 2024 campaign.

Why Horner thinks McLaren could challenge for the Title

McLaren showed marked improvement in the latter half of 2023, going from a lower-midfield team to a regular podium contender.

Drivers Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri both impressed, with the former scoring seven podiums and the latter winning the Qatar Sprint race.

Furthermore, Horner has shed light on yet another factor which could see the Woking-based outfit become Championship contenders.

Speaking to Sky Sports F1, the Briton revealed that Technical Director Rob Marshall had moved from Red Bull to McLaren in the new year, and that he could aid McLaren in their fight up the grid.

He said: “I think McLaren had a great second half of the year. There were times when they were our closest competitor.”

“They have strengthened their team and Rob [Marshall] will be an asset, but it’s not just about one person.”

Horner also heaped praise on McLaren’s driver pairing. He continued: “There are seven or eight hundred people in an F1 team and it needs the whole team to come together.”

“With Lando and Oscar, who was really impressive as a debutant, they could well be a factor next year.”
