The first Formula 1 Qualifying of the season sees Charles Leclerc take pole position.
This makes it Charles Leclerc’s 10th pole position of his career.
He said:
“It feels good! We were quite hopeful that this would be an opportunity to be back in the front. We’re starting from pole, so I’m very happy!”
His teammate Carlos Sainz said:
“I’ve been more than half a second behind all weekend, so to be even fighting for pole position today was good news for me.”
However, Red Bull’s Max Verstappen is remaining positive:
“I think we have a good car and a good race car. It was a good start to the new era. It was a really close battle with Carlos and Charles”.
Are we going to see a Ferrari vs Red Bull title fight this season?
Q1:
The Williams and the Alpha Tauri’s were first on the track.
Straight away it was clear to see how strong both of the Ferraris are, yet the margins between Red Bull and Ferrari were still small.
That left the question of what is going on with the Mercedes and McLaren cars?
One of the biggest surprises to come out of Q1 was that this is the first time that both Haas cars have made it to Q2 since Abu Dhabi 2019.
Eliminated in Q1:
Yuki Tsunoda
Nico Hulkenberg
Daniel Ricciardo
Lance Stroll
Nicholas Latifi

Q2:
William’s Alex Albon was first on track, and I have to admit it is great to see him back in Formula 1.
Q2 sees Haas’ Kevin Magnussen struggle with hydraulic issues, yet surprisingly at the time he still sat in P4.
Eliminated in Q2:
Esteban Ocon
Mick Schumacher
Lando Norris
Alex Albon
Guanyu Zhou

Q3:
This time both of the Mercedes cars were on track first.
At the time it felt like anything could happen, which shows we are in for an interesting season.
However, the Ferraris were not backing down to the Red Bulls.
