It has been announced today that Buemi is set to drive for Envision Racing in Season 9 of Formula E. This will also be the inaugural Gen3 season which will feature “the world’s most efficient racing car”.

Buemi will be partnered with Nick Cassidy at Envision and the team, including Buemi, have their eyes set on maximising points.

Buemi, the Season 2 champion, is one of the sport’s most successful and accomplished racers. Buemi has one championship under his belt, 13 wins, and 29 podiums. He has also been the fastest qualifier 14 times. These results have come from 98 starts, just two short of the milestone 100 (that only one other driver has reached so far).

Buemi’s 13 wins from 98 starts mean that he statistically has the best win percentage. His pedigree will be a great asset to Envision Racing.

A championship mentality

Not only is Buemi an experienced winner but he knows how to chase down a championship from the back foot. Having finished second in the championship three times, his Season 5 campaign was the most incredible.

After having a disappointing start to the season, Buemi was sitting at the bottom end of the championship table and had a best finish of fifth. That all changed in Berlin when a second-place finish set off a chain of podiums for the rest of the season. He finished the season in second: “to think I finished second… I could not have dreamt to finish second”.

Buemi is a champion but he’s also a fighter. Envision has got a well-rounded, well-experienced driver on its hands.

What the team had to say…

Sylvain Filippi, Managing Director, said that:

“In Sebastien we’re confident that we have one of the fastest, most experienced, and ambitious drivers on the grid, which gives us great confidence going into the new season.”

Franz Jung echoed this sentiment about Buemi’s ability by saying:

“I’m delighted to welcome Sebastien to the Envision family. Sebastien’s track record speaks for itself and he’s going to be an invaluable asset to the team.”

Buemi’s beliefs

Buemi has said he’s excited to race in Formula E for the new generation. He believes the new generation is incredibly important for the sport and states he is excited to race for Envision.

“I have always had a huge amount of respect for the team, and I believe they’ve done a great job in maximising results over the years.”

Round 1 of Formula E Season 9 will begin in Mexico City on January 14th.
