Drugovich Dominates on the Final Day of F2 Testing
MP Motorsport’s Felipe Drugovich tops the times on the final day of Formula 2 Testing.
Felipe Drugovich’s success continues from Jeddah as he goes fastest during the in-season testing.
David Beckmann joined today’s session in replacement for Charouz’s Cem Bolukbasi. The swap comes after Bolukbasi experienced problems on day one of testing.
A warm dry day in Barcelona left the teams hurrying out of their garages this morning. After yesterday’s wet conditions, the dry track was welcomed. It presented perfect conditions for qualifying runs.
Current championship leader Drugovich tops the timesheet. He set the fastest time of the test with a 1:27.529.
0.291 seconds behind came Carlin’s Liam Lawson, who placed himself in P2 with a 1:27.820. Virtuosi Racing’s Jack Doohan claimed third, setting a time of 1:27.838.
Doohan also had the most track time of the session. He completed 50 laps on the final day in Barcelona.
With an improving track, the session only saw a single red flag. It was brought out by MP Motorsport’s Clement Novalak as he stopped on track at Turn 2.
Due to track maintenance the session was delayed, however Barcelona remained warm and sunny.
Hitech Grand Prix’s Juri Vips topped the times with a 1:29.288. Van Amersfoort Racing’s (VAR) Jake Hughes followed behind with quite a gap of over a second finishing with a time of 1:30.802. Enzo Fittipaldi claimed P3 with a 1:31.541.
The final session of testing brought out three red flags after a steady morning. ART Grand Prix’s Frederik Vesti brought out the first of the flags after stopping at Turn 15. Later in the session, PREMA Racing’s Dennis Hauger stopped at Turn 5 bringing out the flags again. The final flags belonged to session leader Juri Vips. Vips stopped on track at Turn 5 and prematurely ended the session with five minutes remaining.
In the final session, ART’s Théo Pourchaire was the one to claim the most laps racking up 46 tours of the circuit.
Who came out on top?
The teams had better track conditions to perform qualifying runs today. This resulted in a close field with the top 17 drivers setting times within a second of one another.
As well as topping today’s session, Drugovich topped day one’s morning session. He will be hoping to carry this pace throughout the season, being a championship contender.
The top 10 of the day are as follows:
