Daniel Ricciardo Is Ready For His ‘Pinch Me’ Moment

Daniel Ricciardo is ready to drive a different car this coming weekend in Austin.

The Australian is prepping to drive a NASCAR stock car at the Circuit of The Americas.

McLaren CEO, Zak Brown offered the Honey Badger a drive in Dale Earnhardt Sr’s 1984 Chevrolet Monte Carlo granted that he achieved a podium this season.

Ricciardo made it happen when McLaren mastered a 1-2 finish in Monza with his teammate Lando Norris. Deal done. Daniel was elated after that race.

“Yeah, there’s like a couple of things today, like… Dale Earnhardt – big hero of mine – and to have a chance to get behind the wheel of one of his cars is crazy. That will certainly be a ‘pinch me’ moment. I’m like, maybe he gives me the car? I think it was always a podium, I get to drive it. We never talked about a win, so I gave him my shoe that he drank out of, so maybe he gives me the car. It’s a good trade.” – Daniel Ricciardo.

After a one-year hiatus, it’s now time to have a bit of fun and show spectators dark blue and bright yellow designed stock car during a demonstration in Texas. Ahead of the race, the 32-year old expressed his excitement.

“The city of Austin is a special place known for its brisket, BBQ and all that good stuff. Not to mention that COTA is arguably one of the best tracks we get to race on. We need to make up for missing out on being there last year, so we’ll be working hard for a good result. We’ve taken the time between races to analyse, understand and learn from what happened last time out. We’re ready to move on and focus on the challenge of this weekend. I think some sections of the track will suit us, so we should be in the mix for some points come Sunday.” – Daniel Ricciardo.

The McLaren driver can’t wait for his surreal moment at the United States Grand Prix.
