Cordeel has made plenty of trips to the Stewards since the start of his F2 career.

During Round 1 in Sakhir, Cordeel was handed two ten-second penalties for speeding in the pit lane during the Feature Race. Cordeel came out unscathed however as no penalty points were awarded.

Moving into Round 2, Cordeel still had the need for speed picking up four penalty points at the Jeddah Corniche Circuit. The points accumulated as he failed to slow for double waved yellows and red flags due to Logan’s Sargeant’s damaged car on track.

The FIA documented that Cordeel passed Sargeant’s car at just over double the speed of his fellow drivers, despite being shown flag signals for more than half a lap. The VAR driver admitted to “inattention to the signals” and the Team warned of their “lack of communication”

Incidents in Imola

Proving an eventful Feature Race, Cordeel had his slice of the actions battling with the Stewards. The first offence came in the form of a breeched pit-stop procedure. The tyres were not laid flat during the mandatory pit stop. As a result, the team received a €2000 fine. A five-place grid drop has been suspended until the end of the season, this will be implemented should any other pit stop procedure violation occur.

Throughout the race, the VAR driver racked up six-track limit violations. The first violation resulted in a warning, progressing to a 5-second penalty for the second offence. Upon three violations, Cordeel received a 10-second penalty. With his fourth violation, a drive-through penalty was received, as well as the addition of a penalty point. Moving into his fifth and sixth violation, Cordeel faced more penalty points, adding two and three points respectively.

This sees Cordeel’s total penalty points reach nine, putting the driver three penalty points away from a race ban.

As the race progressed, Cordeel continued to test the limits, picking up two pit lane speeding violations. The driver was caught doing 99.2 km/h (61.6 mph) later committing the same offence at 63.2 km/h (38.7mph). The driver was cleared of these violations with a slap on the wrist and no further action.

Both Cordeel and VAR were summoned to the Stewards to discuss the multiple infractions committed by Cordeel. This ended with no further action as the rookie committed “to do better in the future”.

Will we see the VAR driver continue on his reckless streak?
