Bottas joins Frank Williams Tributes: “he gave me my opportunity in F1”

Valtteri Bottas has joined tributes to the late Sir Frank Williams, ahead of the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix.

Bottas, who is starting his 100th race at Mercedes, credited Williams with giving him his opportunity to break into the sport.He said:

“He was the guy who gave me my opportunity to get into Formula 1.

“Without Frank, and him giving me that opportunity to show myself, I wouldn’t be sitting in this seat right now.”

Bottas described Williams as a friend, and as someone who motivated everyone around him.

“He was just a nice guy, legend that everyone loved”.

Bottas spent four seasons at Williams, starting 77 races for the team, then still run by the Williams family.

During his time with the team, he secured nine podiums, before moving to his current seat at Mercedes.

Bottas’ words add to the many tributes that have come in from both present and former drivers.

Teams will be running with a Frank Williams logo on their cars this weekend, in remembrance of Sir Frank.

This, along with the outpouring of love and support for the legendary figure, is testament to the impact he had on all involved in the sport.
