For the Gen3 era, Porsche has Pascal Wehrlein and former world champion Antonio Félix da Costa as their driver line-up. In addition to two permanent race drivers, Porsche have added another two for testing and reserve. Season 9 is only a few weeks away and as teams are getting ready for the new era, more and more driver announcements have come out with Porsche’s being the latest.

As reserve drivers, the team welcomed one new driver and retained one of their oldest and most faithful drivers. These drivers are David Beckmann, Formula 2 driver and Avalanche Andretti reserve, and Simona de Silvestro, who’s been part of the Porsche family for years.

David Beckmann

The 22-year-old German driver has just joined the team ahead of Season 9. Despite already being in the sport as a reserve driver with Avalanche Andretti, Beckmann has also joined the main Porsche outlet. This was made possible when Andretti became a customer team.

Porsche has vocalised their delight with Beckmann joining the team:

“We’re delighted that David will be joining our TAG Heuer Porsche Formula E Team as a test and reserve driver.”

Beckmann is very experienced in single seaters and despite being young, the team are excited to ‘learn’ from him. Florian Modlinger, Director Factory Motorsport Formula E wrote: “We’re excited to benefit from his input and expertise.”

Simona de Silvestro

After an incredible single-seater career, involving both Formula 1, IndyCar and Formula E, De Silvestro joined Porsche in 2019. She joined the team as a works driver whilst being a test driver for Formula E itself. This year she will be an official reserve and test driver for the Porsche team.

The Mexico City ePrix will be on 14th January and will be everyone’s first glimpse of the new Gen3 cars in race conditions. How well will Porsche fare?
