Audi has informed the FIA that they plan to enter Formula One as early as next year.
In an announcement today, Audi chairman Markus Duesmann revealed that the manufacturer were satisfied with the progressions that F1 had made in applying the new technical regulations for 2022 and beyond.
He added that Audi felt that now is the right time to put pen to paper as the regulations offer a level playing field to newcomers and feel they may be able to benefit from the upcoming regulation changes.
The Audi management board are still to make an offical decision on the teams entry for 2022 but discussions are positive.
