“I am delighted to be joining Aston Martin as team ambassador. I already know many faces within the team, having worked extensively with Fernando Alonso during my time at McLaren and Ferrari, and I look forward to getting to know everyone within the organisation.”
Looking into the future
Aston Martin are certainly welcoming a wealth of expertise in 2023 with signing the ex-F1 driver. He is now 51 and his Formula One career spanned over a decade. He left Formula One in 2014, but not before testing with Force India (now known as Aston Martin) in 2009. The Spaniard is looking forward to implementing his vast F1 knowledge into Aston Martin next year and beyond:
“I will draw on my experience and expertise to help the team grow and further develop the momentum it has been gathering ahead of the 2023 season, with a particular eye on supporting the marketing and commercial side of the business.”
When asked on working with the drivers, he said that, “I am looking forward to working with Fernando, my old friend and fellow countryman, as you might expect, and also Lance Stroll, a gifted racer who has won all junior categories on his way to Formula 1.
Aston Martin are looking set for 2023. Signing a two-time World Champion and de la Rosa, who Mike Krack referred to as a “fantastic addition” means good things ahead for the team.
Aston Martin are currently seventh in the constructors. Sebastian Vettel is 11th and Lance Stroll is 15th in the drivers standings.
