Andretti maintains “his eyesight on entering Formula 1”

The possible return of the name Andretti to the Circus has been a recurring theme in 2021 and it seems like the new year didn’t bring new objectives, as former F1 World Champion Mario Andretti confirmed.

Andretti Autosport became a constant of many categories. The American team currently competes in the NTT INDYCAR SERIES, Indy Lights Presented by Cooper Tires Championship and the IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championship LMP3 division, the ABB FIA Formula-E Championship, and Extreme E but aims at bringing one of the most historic names of motorsport back to the pinnacle.

Formula 1 is entering a new era in 2022 and, as reported by RacingNews365.com, Michael Andretti is confident in the excitement brought by change: “There’s so much to look forward to, to see just how the new technical rules are going to play out. We’ll see whether the field is going to be more level; because of these new rules, everyone is starting pretty much from scratch.”

Although the 1978 World Champion believes “the usual suspects will still be up front”, the new regulations will bring a new interest in the sport: “Everything is out there. That’s what creates the anxiety and the anticipation about the coming season. [With] new rules, I think that’s always a bit of a shake-up, which is good. You’re looking forward to unpredictability.”

With the grid set to be closer than ever in 2022, Formula 1 might provide the perfect moment for a shocking but anticipated return of the American team in the Circus. Since 2021 rumors of Andretti potentially buying or investing in Alfa Romeo or Haas have been never-ending in the news, following the creation of the Andretti Acquisition Corporation and a visit from Michael Andretti to the Alfa Romeo’s factory in Hinwil.

Andretti’s interest in Alfa Romeo didn’t work out in the way fans would have preferred but Mario Andretti reassured the intentions in Indianapolis are still clear: “All I can say about that is Michael is not giving that up. He has his eyesight on entering the Formula 1 world and he has some good people behind him. Stay tuned! It’s not over yet.”
