Former 24 hours of Le Mans winner Fernando Alonso is set to feature at this year’s event.
Alonso will drive an Alpine Formula 1 car around the famous Circuit de la Sarthe in France before the main event as part of a parade to celebrate the team.
It will be the first time an F1 car has driven around the full 8.5-mile track, but it is likely to be an old Renault chassis with an Alpine livery.
There have been rumours linking Alpine to the list of manufactures competing at Le Mans in the near future, and an announcement could be made as soon as this weekend.
The ‘Alpine parade’ will feature several cars manufactured by the French company joining Alonso on a lap of the circuit.
Alonso won the iconic race back in 2018 and 2019 racing for Toyota in the LMP1 class.
The Spaniard’s teammate Esteban Ocon will drive an Alpine A110 GT4 in the celebrations also before both turn their attention to F1’s Belgian Grand Prix a week later.
