“I warmly welcome the election of Gian Carlo Minardi as FIA Single-Seater Commission President. He is a major figure in motor sport. I look forward to working with him to further develop the Single-Seater pyramid around the world.”
The Italian is set to oversee vital areas including the FIA’s junior racing portfolio, promoting innovative technologies and improving safety measures.
Gian Carlo started as a racer in Hill Climb and Rallying during the 1960s. Rising the ranks, he managed teams in Formula Italia from 1972 to 1974. After much success, Minardi entered Formula 1 in 1985. Soon he formed a Ferrari V12 engine supply partnership in 1991. Over the years, he helped develop drivers such as Gian Carlo Fisichella, Jarno Trulli, Mark Webber and Fernando Alonso.
The Minardi name transformed when acquired by Paul Stoddart in 2001. Most may recognise the brand’s transition from Scuderia Toro Rosso to AlphaTauri. Although the original Minardi team base remains in Faenza, Italy.
Since 2004, Gian Carlo claimed his place as President of the Automobile Club d’Italia (ACI) Land Speed Records Commission.
In 2021, Mr Minardi became the President of the Autdodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari. Racing fans know it as Imola.
This just happens to be our next race destination for the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix during the weekend of 22-24 April.
