Championship leader Jamie Chadwick admitted she is ready for the Hungarian race and will try to keep her head down to recover from yesterday’s struggles.
W Series saw a brilliant qualifying session yesterday in Budapest. The three-way battle saw 2021 runner-up Alice Powell conquer her first pole position in 2022 while 2-times W Series champion Jamie Chadwick surprisingly only qualified fifth.
Ahead of today’s race, however, Chadwick told FormulaNerds she won’t take unnecessary risks, especially considering the changeable conditions: “I thinkitdepends on weatherconditionsbutwe’llsee. No need to take big risks but I thinkIfeelaboutour position so I wannagetmy head down, try and get a good first fewlaps and seewherewe end up. “
Is rain incoming?
The W Series drivers, who were also able to discuss the upcoming race with 7-times F1 World Champion Sir Lewis Hamilton, will have to deal with heavy rain and tricky conditions on the track with the lights going out at 14:40 CEST.
Regarding the rain, Chadwick admitted the forecast doesn’t worry her excessively: “I’m confidentgenerally in the wet, but I thinkthatgenerally, it leads to some more disruption and so yeah, maybe more eventualitieshappenanyway so we’llsee, I thinkifitiswet or dry I hopewe can getour head down and stillhave a good race. “
So far, Chadwick has dominated the W Series grid in 2022 winning every race of the season so far but whether she will be able to hold this record is yet to see, as it will depend on her ability to solve the question marks left by qualifying: “Based on yesterday no [keeping the trend of victories], buttoday I thinkit’s a new day. I don’tnecessarilyneed to take the risk but I thinkwe’vegot a good pace then I don’tseewhynot. “
